The loss of biodiversity is one of the leading causes for climate change. In line with our core value of sustainability, we initiated the Assan Alüminyum Biodiversity Preservation project as a corporate social responsibility initiative to positively impact biodiversity, a key aspect of sustainability.

Our goal is to enhance environmental sustainability through our Biodiversity Preservation project, in collaboration with the Biology Department at Kocaeli University. The project commenced with the Amsonia orientalis, commonly referred to as Blue Star, recognized by the European Commission in 2002 as a species that must be conserved within the flora. This unique endemic plant is currently found in limited areas within Turkey's Marmara Region and is believed to be extinct in Greece. This collaboration between academia and industry stands as a pioneering effort in its domain, where the Amsonia orientalis has been successfully propagated using biotechnological techniques and reintroduced into its natural habitat, thereby significantly aiding biodiversity conservation.

The project's second phase involved another plant, Pancratium maritimum, known as the Sea Daffodil, which is categorized as endangered. Laboratory efforts have been undertaken to prevent its extinction. Concurrently, we became the main supporter of the theatrical production “The Sea Daffodils,” showcased at Zorlu PSM. Our Sea Daffodils initiative, which supports sustainability in both environmental and social spheres, earned us two national and two international accolades in categories such as sustainability initiative of the year, culture-art, and communications.

In the third phase, we finalized our efforts to avert the extinction of the Verbascum bugulifolium, also known as the Riva Mullein. The fourth phase included propagation of the Centaurea kilaea plant, also known as the Kilyos Button, ultimately preventing its extinction. The fifth phase of the project aims to re-introduce the Cirsium byzantinum plant back into nature, aiming to save it from going extinct.

We continue to strive for a more sustainable world, as we believe that the preservation of biodiversity is crucial for creating a sustainable world for future generations.
